Ever had a wine moment so specific you thought, “this could be a meme”? So did we. Here are forty, with fresh humour that actually gets wine culture. No tired cork jokes. Just comedy: crushed, fermented and bottled for the internet. Save them, share them, or just scroll and say: “Okay, that is literally me.”

Wine moments we've all had

  • 1. “What kind of wine is this?” The kind you photograph the label of “for later”, and never look at again.
  • 2. “Can you taste the minerality?” I can taste that I paid extra for it.
  • 3. “Would you like to see the wine list?” Yes. I'll read all twelve pages and order the second-cheapest red.
  • 4. “Should we let it breathe?” It spent ten years in a bottle. Give it a minute.
  • 5. “What's your favourite wine?” The one someone else opened.
  • 6. “What do you smell?” Wet stone, black cherry and… is that my own nervousness?
  • 7. “Why does wine taste better on holiday?” Because the view is doing half the work.
  • 8. “How do you hold a wine glass?” By the stem. Unless nobody is watching.

Funny answers to common wine questions

Every wine lover has asked at least one of these, maybe in a tasting room, maybe holding a questionable glass of boxed red.

  • 9. “Is red wine served at room temperature?” Yes, but not your apartment in July.
  • 10. “Can I put ice in wine?” If your soul is melting, yes.
  • 11. “Why swirl wine?” To release the aromas, and to pretend you know what you're doing.
  • 12. “Is screw-cap wine cheap?” Nope. It's commitment-free. Like a summer fling, but tastier.
  • 13. “What does ‘dry wine’ mean?” Not sweet. Like your humour and your text replies.
  • 14. “How long does wine last after opening?” Technically three to five days. Realistically? Not long enough to matter.
  • 15. “Is rosé red and white mixed together?” No. It's red grapes with a tan and better Instagram lighting.
  • 16. “Why do wine tastings give small pours?” So you can pretend you're classy while fighting for your sixth sip.

Wine + pop culture = gold

  • 17. “Why so many kinds of Chardonnay?” Because it has range. Like Beyoncé. But with oak.
  • 18. “What's Malbec like?” Smooth, bold and ready to grill. Basically The Rock in a bottle.
  • 19. “What is Barolo?” It's Meryl Streep. Looks delicate. Wins awards. Scares people.
  • 20. “Why is Syrah so spicy?” It's Rihanna, if she came from granite soil.
  • 21. “Why do people love Riesling?” Because it's versatile. Sweet or dry, chill or dramatic. Zendaya in grape form.
  • 22. “What's Sauvignon Blanc like?” Crisp, loud and opinionated. Gordon Ramsay with citrus.
  • 23. “What's Pinot Noir like?” Elegant, emotional and sensitive. The Timothée Chalamet of grapes.
  • 24. “Zinfandel?” Fruity, bold, slightly chaotic. The friend who brings a speaker to the barbecue.
  • 25. “What about Champagne?” Effervescent, high-maintenance and always overdressed.
  • 26. “What's a wine with high acidity like?” It slaps your tongue and makes you rethink your whole personality.

Extra pour: more memes, because one glass isn't enough

  • 27. “What's tannin again?” That drying-mouth thing. Like drinking wine and getting ghosted at the same time.
  • 28. “How do I choose a wine?” Find a cool label, pretend you read the tasting notes, and hope for the best.
  • 29. “Is expensive wine always better?” No. But it's always better at making you nervous to open it.
  • 30. “How many glasses in a bottle?” Officially, five. Unofficially, it depends who's pouring.
  • 31. “Why do people sniff corks?” Tradition, confusion and vibes.
  • 32. “What's the best wine pairing?” Silence, a couch, and nobody asking you to describe it.
  • 33. “Why is wine so complicated?” Because it's French.
  • 34. “What's orange wine?” White wine that got bored and decided to be different.
  • 35. “Can I drink wine with dessert?” Yes, but now you're playing with power.
  • 36. “Do I really need to aerate?” Only if you believe your wine deserves a little foreplay.
  • 37. “What's a wine flight?” Tiny glasses. Big judgement.
  • 38. “Should wine taste like mushrooms?” If it's an older Pinot, yes. If not, check the fridge.
  • 39. “What if I can't taste the notes?” Say it's “balanced” and make a mysterious face.
  • 40. “Why do I suddenly want a vineyard?” Because one good bottle and a sunset make farming sound romantic. Ask any winemaker about frost.

Wrap-up

We made these because wine isn't just a drink. It's a lifestyle, a mood, and the best excuse to call your friends round. Feel free to repost any of them (credit @sommdigi if you're feeling kind), and tag the friend who always “just wants one glass”.

Questions people ask

Can I share these wine memes?

Yes, please do. A credit to @sommdigi on Instagram is always appreciated.

Is there any truth behind the jokes?

Plenty. Most rosé really is made from red grapes with only a short time on the skins. Orange wine is white wine made like a red, with the skins left in. And tannin is exactly that drying feeling in your mouth.
